Its fast autofocus, robust design and construction and exceptional imaging quality make it an outstanding lens for reportage and a convincing choice for other areas of photography such as architecture, landscapes, portraiture and studio work. Wide-angle 35mm f/2 lens is designed for full-frame Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for working with selective focusing techniques.The apochromatic optical design uses anomalous partial dispersion glass to suppress color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color accuracy, and five aspherical elements are also featured to reduce spherical aberrations for improved sharpness. Multi-layer coatings have also been applied to limit flare and ghosting for increased contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, Water-repellent AquaDura coating has been applied to the exposed elements and seals have been incorporated in the lens design to benefit working in harsh environmental conditions. The optical system of the APO-Summicron-SL 35 f/2 ASPH. features a total of 13 elements, three of which are aspherical lenses for the correction of monochromatic aberration. For the correction of chromatic aberration, 9 of the 13 elements are manufactured from high-quality special glasses that can only be produced and finished with the most advanced production methods. Their particular optical property, known as anomalous partial dispersion, enables compensation for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire optical system. As a result of this, even highlights in images remain free of colour fringing.
The AF system of the Summicron-SL lenses is fast, precise, and almost silent. They thank their outstanding AF performance figures to the autofocus drive unit they share. Dual Syncro Drive stepping motor delivers quick, precise, and near-silent autofocus performance to suit both photo and video applications. This system also avails full-time manual focus override.
