Description
Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH.Fast and compact on every travelWith a focal length of 50 mm, the world is captured just as the eye sees it. The f/1.4 lens speed brings out the distinctive Leica image character, providing exceptional subject isolation and bokeh, imbuing images with unmistakable depth. What sets the Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. apart? It combines this performance with a design that creates a masterful unit when used with Leica SL3 cameras. Focused, precise, confident. Manufactured in Germany, the Summilux-SL combines the finest craftsmanship with optical engineering. The result is an exceptionally compact full-frame lens that can focus from as close as 50 cm, demonstrating its strengths in everything from spontaneous travel moments to carefully staged portraits.Wide Aperture, Full of CharacterAt its maximum lens speed of f/1.4, the Summilux-SL reveals its distinctive character. The bokeh appears naturally soft, while the high contrast defining the in-focus area draws the eye directly to the subject. Portraits gain depth, travel photos are infused with atmosphere, and reportage photos are enriched with context and clear composition. When the aperture is stopped down, a second strength becomes apparent: the ability to capture the finest details with brilliance and consistent imaging performance across the entire image field. From spontaneous moments to structured compositionsSituations can change quickly, particularly when travelling or working in the field of reportage photography. Having the most natural focal length, the 50 mm lens feels instinctive to use. What the eye sees is reflected in the image. The Leica SL’s exceptionally compact design also ensures it can be taken anywhere. With a close focus distance of 50 cm, you can still be flexible with tighter framing and closer subjects. When you compose deliberately, the camera impresses with its high resolution and consistent imaging performance across the entire image field. It thus reliably supports every shot, from capturing fleeting moments to carefully composing photos.Fast focus, always in balanceMeasuring 75.5 millimetres and weighing 584 grams, it is designed to be used with Leica SL3 cameras, creating a balanced centre of gravity for steady handling. The precision voice-coil motor executes focus commands quickly and almost silently. When unpowered, the focus group is not held in a fixed position, which may result in slight noise when the lens is moved. Once the camera is switched on, the focus group is electromagnetically stabilised and guided with precision. This design enables focusing performance that cannot be achieved with conventional mechanical systems, representing high-performance technology in its most compact form.Design DetailsThe Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. consists of 11 glass elements in six groups. The aspherical elements are manufactured using the in-house PGM process, whereby aberrations are already corrected during the initial optical calculation. The 11-blade aperture ensures smooth transitions in out-of-focus areas and is electronically controlled. The lens communicates directly with the camera via the Leica L-Mount contact strip. When used with SL-Cameras, the black anodised aluminium body forms a unit that is sealed against dust and splash water in accordance with the IP54 standard. The lens is designed for long and intensive use, with an E67 filter thread and the metal lens hood included in the scope of supply.Scope of delivery:• Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH.• Lens Hood• Front cover (lens cap)• Rear cover• Lens Pouch• Certificate (DEF)• Instructions
